The Hall Is Barred

The Brotherhood labors within. Speak the word, brother, and enter.

That word is not known to the Chancery. Try again.

The Brotherhood

Hearken, brother, and be welcome. The dragon is everything the old stories gave to masculine myth β€” fire, strength, freedom, the untamed thing that answers to no one. And this is no fellowship that merely admires dragons from afar. Herein, the Dragons are not the legend upon the wall. We are the Dragons. Every man who joins us β€” founder, steward, and member alike β€” is a Dragon of the Brotherhood, a brother at the long table, with a place by the fire that is his by right of welcome.

This Brotherhood was kindled by two Dragons who sought what the old world knew and the new world forgot: a place apart, where men may gather as equals, unhurried and unguarded, and call one another brother in earnest.

Within this Brotherhood, manhood is neither pageant nor contest. It is not measured by the loudest boast, the highest seat, the victories a man may claim, nor by any single form his body may take. It is known instead by his bearing: the courage to stand plainly before his brothers; the honor to keep his word; the discipline to master his own strength; the wisdom to honor another man’s bounds; and the generosity to draw a brother nearer the fire. Such is strength without vainglory, freedom bound to duty, and power made worthy through character.

An old and uncommon ease is found in the true company of men — plain speech freely given, a confidence faithfully kept, the rough grace of labor shared, laughter needing no explanation, and the honest dignity of the male body as nature fashioned it: unhidden and unashamed. Some Dragons carry a flame that roars; in others it burns low and steadfast. No brother need boast, wear a false face, or lessen another man in order to belong. Here, one brother’s strength casts no shadow upon the next. It lends warmth to the whole Hall and makes the long table stronger.

A dragon wears no clothes. Its own skin is its splendor. β€” The First Truth of the Brotherhood

The Hall

Every brotherhood worthy of the name must have its hall, and ours is the Hall of Dragons. In days of old, the hall was the beating heart of every keep β€” the long room where the fire never went out. There men gathered as equals at the long table; there feasts were laid and tales were told; there oaths were sworn and strangers made welcome under the ancient law of the hearth. A hall was never merely a building. It was a promise: beneath this roof there is warmth, there is brotherhood, and there is welcome.

The Hall of Dragons is that promise, kept alive in our own age β€” a retreat in the oldest sense of the word: a place apart from the clamor of the world, where the fire is lit, the table is set, and the company is true. The Brotherhood is who we are; the Hall is where the Dragons come home to roost.

✦

Bare by the Hearth

In the great halls of old, a man laid down sword and shield at the door ere he joined the fire. No man sat armored at the feast. We keep that ritual β€” and carry it to its honest end. Here thou shalt shed the armor of the outer world: the title, the schedule, the performance, the pretense, and at the last, the clothes themselves. What remains by the hearth is simply the man β€” fully himself, among brothers, at ease in his own skin.

This is naturism as the old halls would have understood it: not spectacle, but honesty. Not exposure, but ease. The body unarmored, the company unguarded, the evening unhurried.

The Code of the Brotherhood

I

Hospitality

Every Dragon at our table shall be met with warmth. The law of the hearth is older than any of us, and we keep it faithfully.

II

Respect

Ease requireth trust. Every man's comfort, boundaries, and dignity are guarded by all, always.

III

Discretion

What is shared within the Hall abideth within the Hall. Our brothers' names and stories are theirs alone to tell.

IV

Brotherhood

No man sitteth alone at the long table. We arrive as strangers and depart as Dragons of one Brotherhood.

The Way to the Hall

Seek us in the Realm of the Eagle (the United States), in the sun-blessed Province of Sol (Florida), within the bustling township of Orlando β€” where the summer never truly ends and the fire in our hearth burns all the year round.

The Hall keeps worthy company. We stand but a short ride from the Magic Castle of the Mouse King (Walt Disney World), hard by the Lands of Aquatic Enchantment (Aquatica, Typhoon Lagoon, and Volcano Bay), and over the hill from the fabled Isles of Adventure (Universal Orlando). Pilgrims to those bright kingdoms will find our quieter fire close at hand.

As for the journey: come thou by metallic dragon (by air, into Orlando's great aerodrome), by driverless carriage (Waymo or Uber), or astride thine own trusty steed (thy motorcar) β€” the road to the Hall is an easy one, and the gate is never far. Petition the Chancery below, and precise directions shall be sent by return owl.

Seek Entry

The fire is lit. The table is long, and there is a place at it with thy name yet unspoken. If the Brotherhood calls to thee, answer.

Membership is by inquiry, addressed to the Chancery β€” the Brotherhood answers every owl.
